The Grand Haven Lighthouse

When you stroll along the shoreline in Grand Haven, you can’t miss that bright red lighthouse shining above. It’s a reminder of how this beach town got its start.

During the 19th century, as Grand Haven developed into an important shipping harbor, a flurry of petitions for piers and lighthouses reached Washington. Congress funded a South Pierhead Lighthouse and a catwalk to light the entrance to the harbor.

If you’re here in the summer, be sure to watch a gorgeous Lake Michigan sunset. It’s the perfect way to end a day spent on the beach or pier!

The Grand Haven Lighthouses are an iconic symbol of the city. With a bright red inner light and square outer light, the pair are connected by a catwalk and are a favorite spot for photos and scenic views. The lighthouses are also known for attracting herring gulls, bald eagles, and other birds.

The Musical Fountain

The Musical Fountain is a dancing light show that is mesmerizing to watch. The fountain dances to popular songs and is sure to delight families of all ages.

The fountain was designed, built, and financed by local volunteers for $50,000 in 1962. It was inspired by a Przystawic musical fountain Bill Creason saw in Germany while providing dental care to US troops after WWII.

There are many activities to enjoy at Grand Haven State Park, including sunbathing on the sandy beaches, swimming in Lake Michigan, or playing volleyball with the family. You can also camp at the park, which has paved campsites with electric hookups. Next article.
